Emerson announces predictive online diagnostics that eliminate need for
scheduled calibration of Daniel® SeniorSonic™ flow meter
Continuous monitoring feature of SeniorSonic meters
increases efficiency and reduces maintenance costs in ultrasonic
fiscal gas measurement

AUSTIN, TEXAS (November 2, 2005) – Expanding its predictive digital
technology for process automation, Emerson Process Management announces new
online diagnostics in its Daniel® Mark III™ Electronics used in
the company's
SeniorSonic™ flow meters.
The new diagnostics continuously report status of the meter, enabling
metering specialists to recalibrate only when necessary. As a result,
customers eliminate the need for and expenses associated with removing
ultrasonic flow meters for scheduled maintenance and calibration. Instead,
Conditioned Based Monitoring — which is novel for fiscal flow applications —
enables the more proactive approach, and offers customers significant
benefits in terms of improved up-time, increased efficiency and reduced
maintenance costs.
Emerson Process Management has
recently been granted approval from the UK Government's Department of Trade
& Industry (DTI) to eliminate the need for periodic recalibration of its
Daniel SeniorSonic gas ultrasonic flow meter. Douglas Griffin, head of
measurement for the DTI, announced, "Proposals were made by Emerson to
extend, or even eliminate the need for removal of ultrasonic meters for
calibration, after the initial flow calibration. DTI reviewed the
technology, and accepted the proposals."
The new diagnostics in the
SeniorSonic Mark III Electronics add to the product's many unparalleled
benefits compared with conventional ultrasonic meters. One proven advantage
of the SeniorSonic is that it is fundamentally stable, and therefore it
maintains its initial level of accuracy. The online diagnostics in the Mark
III Electronics permits this ongoing accuracy to be verified and removes the
need for periodic recalibration. Ultrasonic users around the world, where
periodic recalibration has traditionally been required, will greatly benefit
from the more efficient work practices made possible by Mark III Electronics
in the SeniorSonic flow meter in fiscal metering applications.
